We were appointed to assist an established regional contractor to prepare a bid for extensive refurbishment works to a Grade 2 listed building in a busy town centre location. Value was added to the bid process in several ways including:

  • introducing the client to new, more competitive subcontractors
  • advising on more cost effective ways to manage health and safety on site
  • reducing site preliminary costs by suggesting alternative ways to organise and manage the works
  • offering advice to reduce the cost of attendances provided for subcontractors

A client with limited knowledge of construction processes was considering a land purchase and construction of a new build property. Our consultation services enabled the client to make informed decisions regarding the feasibility of the proposed project. We were involved to conduct project appraisal and feasibility and were able to assist with:

  • initial consultations with local planning authorities and guidance through the planning process
  • liaising with Building Control to ensure compliance
  • introducing designers to provide basic design drawings based upon the client’s brief
  • advice to develop these designs and provide budget costs for construction

An established contractor won a complex, high value local authority school extension and refurbishment tender at a time when key staff were engaged in completing current projects and could not be spared. We were appointed to advise on setting up the project and handing it over internally when the Project team became available. Our advice and assistance helped the client achieve the required objective of an efficient commencement of work on site. Our services included:

  • identifying possible savings to offer the client to ensure the tender was within budget
  • advising on a financial control system to reconcile costs, valuations, margin forecasts
  • preparing enquiries for early stage principal subcontractors and reporting to the MD for appointment decisions
  • arranging for the preparation of the Health and Safety Plan and the collation of documentation for the Building Manual during the progress of the works
